Have you seen video the “A Film By Nancy Meyers” by Chris Stapleton and Jimmy Fallon? It took the internet by storm earlier this week, and it has made me laugh so much!

There’s really nothing as beautiful as a Nancy Meyers’ styled home (think Something’s Gotta Give, Home Again, or The Holiday to name a few). I became enchanted with all things Nancy Meyers at a young age when I watched The Parent Trap and Father of the Bride on repeat. Back then, I was more drawn in by Hallie and Annie’s antics, but now I can’t get enough of Elizabeth James’ beautifully decorated London townhouse. The homes in these movies are decorated in various styles–modern, transitional, traditional, or Nantucket preppy–but there’s a theme running through each of these homes. They each embody all the little things that make a house feel like home.
I think that this feeling of comfort is what we’re all trying to create in our homes and is a huge part of why Nancy Meyers’ film sets are so beloved! As a new homeowner, I’m still in the process of making our house a home, too, and these films are a huge inspiration! Here are some interior design tips I’m taking straight from the films that I hope will inspire you too:
1. Bring in pieces that are old and new for a “lived-in” look
A mix of antique furniture and more modern pieces gives a home depth. I love the look of our slipcovered couch (a recent Facebook marketplace find!) with our glass coffee table. If you’re newlyweds like us, you’ve been given lots of old pieces of furniture (which I personally love!). Now you can consider it a part of your Nancy Meyers aesthetic!
2. Add fresh elements throughout your home.
There’s nothing like a vase of fresh flowers to add life to a space. I love grabbing a simple bunch of hydrangeas when I’m at the grocery store because they’re so easy to arrange (and they last for such a long time)! Other elements like a fresh bowl of fruit on the kitchen counter or herbs in the windowsill also give the “lived in” look that’s straight from The Holiday.
3. Store your go-to kitchen items right where you can see them
You know those cookbooks you’re always reaching for? Display them right on your kitchen counters!
4. Go with neutrals for big textiles
For curtains or bedding, opt for white or off-white in cotton or linen and mix in your favorite accent colors. This adds more light to your home and makes it easier to decorate seasonally!
5. Incorporate jute or rattan pieces.
From jute or sisal rugs to woven baskets for storing blankets, these pieces add such warmth to a space.
6. Embrace Candlelight
Possibly the easiest tip – fill your home with candlelight, especially at night! This is my favorite candle.
7. Display family photos and keepsakes
From wedding photos to seashells collected on vacation, I love how displaying our treasures has made our house feel more like a home! I recommend sourcing frames from your local antique store. If you’re here in Memphis, go to Sheffield’s Antiques! Target also has nice options like this one I’ve been admiring!
What I love most about these tips is that, for the most part, achieving this look doesn’t have to cost much. Look at your home with fresh eyes and use what you already have! It’s all about creating a space that is comfortable and welcoming for you and your family.

Julia
