The Hill House Nap Dress has become extremely popular over the past few years, and with good reason! $20 OFF HILL HOUSE NAP DRESS
What I ordered
I ordered two of the classic Ellie Nap Dresses – one in solid navy and one in green botanical – with the intention of returning the one I liked less. And of course, they were both beautiful! I love the smocked details on the bodice and straps. The Navy Ellie is a staple I could see myself wearing in so many ways and the pattern on the Green Botanical Ellie is breathtaking. It definitely makes a statement!
Since my first Nap Dress purchase, I’ve added a few more! Including this pink and white botanical dress. Love!
How to wear it
To make these items “worth it” to me, I knew I’d have to be able to envision myself wearing them in multiple ways. This has proved to be an easy task, as there’s so much inspiration on @hillhousehome and at the tag #napdressnation! In warmer months, styling them is a no-brainer with sandals or sneakers. As the temperatures begin to drop, pairing them with cardigans or turtlenecks proves that these dresses can be worn in so many ways. I love that I won’t have to say goodbye to these pieces when the weather turns cooler!
I recently wore the Navy Ellie to an Ole Miss football game with white sneakers and the Green Botanical Ellie to church with sandals and extra accessories. Both ways made me feel beautiful and put together–exactly what I want from my outfits! Because they are so versatile, they are quickly becoming my go-to dresses!
FIT & SIZING
The website suggests sizing down a full size, and I found this to be true! I ordered an S in both dresses, and they fit well. I may have even been able to size down to an XS, but I like knowing that I have a little extra room. (If there were ever a pattern I was dying to get my hands on, it’s good to know that I *could* size down more if I needed to!)
FABRIC & QUALITY
The material of both dresses is 100% Cotton. It’s very soft and breathable, which makes it perfect for the southern heat and humidity! I liked that neither of them was sheer, which added to the comfort factor in my opinion. No slip needed!
Nap Dresses also come in other fabrics, too. The 2023 Fall Collection features beautiful crepe, cotton and novelty fabrics. Other textiles like tulle, lace, and silk are also offered in the same beautiful silhouettes! Perfect for more formal events! *note: I’ve seen others mention that anything noted as “sheer” is very sheer, so I’d recommend wearing nude undergarments with those pieces!
These dresses have also proved to be easy to care for – I have washed both of them with similar items in cold water and laid flat to dry. A few passes with a steamer and they look brand new! I’d also recommend folding your smocked dresses over a hanger rather than by the straps to preserve the beautiful smocking.
An update to my review
I’ve been a part of #napdressnation for almost a year now, and I can truly say that these pieces are some of my favorites! I especially love that I can wear them for almost any occasion with the right accessories. They have increased in price since I first purchased them, but they do run sales annually, and you can use a discount code for $20 off. My favorite dresses are the black poplin Ellie, pink botanical Ellie (similar linked here!) and the navy tartan (a yearly holiday release!). I find that the black Ellie is my most versatile, and the tartan Ellie is so soft, fun, and unique for the holidays!
I’ve also recently tried their newer crepe material and love how easy it is to wear! I anticipate getting a lot of great wear out of it because it’s wrinkle-free and breathable! Hill House has expanded their product line so much over the past year–I’m hoping to try one of Hill House’s other styles soon!
THE FINAL VERDICT
I do think that the decision to purchase (or not to purchase) a Nap Dress comes down to your personal preferences. If you are not a fan of “day dresses” and can’t see yourself wearing them often, it may not be for you! There are a lot of similar styles like this one from Target and these from Belk that are just as cute if you’d like to try the look for less first. Shop more “nap dress” inspired looks below!
If you’re like me and have admired these dresses from afar for a while, appreciate a timeless wardrobe staple, and are a big fan of wearing dresses as often as possible, then I’d say pull the trigger on The Nap Dress — you won’t regret it!
The 2023 Holiday Collection drops on October 17th at 12pm ET! I’m going to have to limit myself on how many things I purchase… this may be my favorite collection yet!
